Thriller Opening (Final)

Image
After producing a first draft and getting feedback on things to change and what didn't quite fit we spent time editing a bit more. Overall, I was really proud of the group I think we all pulled together and made a really good film. We respected the fact that we couldn't all do everything all of the time so we allowed each other the time and space to do what we could. I struggled with editing but after watching both Grace and Tahlia I now understand more what to do so in the future I can progress and learn more about the software! Anyway, we finally finished and we are all really proud of our work! We hope you enjoy it!

Evaluation Question 7

Image
For our very last evaluation question we were asked 'Looking back at your preliminary task, What do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the main task?'  Comparing our preliminary task and our thriller opening i think there is a clear difference in both confidence of the group as a whole and the understanding of the technology and how to use it.  Personally, i think i improved in many ways even though i did the same job in both and took charge of filming, whilst also sharing it with Eleanor, i did gain confidence in the preliminary task which enabled me to do a lot of different shots and have many more ideas when filming our thriller opening such as attempting a 180 degree turn with the camera when Tahlia walks out the house!    I also had a go at many other shots such as a low shot filming Tahlia's feet when she is walking up the street, a long shot when Tahlia is walking down the lane and looking back and also a over the shoulder shot wh...

Evaluation Question 6

Image
For Question 6 i used 'note.ly' to present my answers because i had many points that i wanted to be separate cut also interesting!

Evaluation Question 4&5

Image
We decided to do questions 4&5 together because they both focused on audience, for this we filmed our answer as it was the best way to combine them!

Evaluation Question 3

For Question 3 we were asked what kind of media institution might distribute your product and why? for this i decided to use a powerpoint and i then used slide share to upload it! Evaluation Question 3 from beth allen

Evaluation Question 2

For the second evaluation question we were asked 'How does your media product represent particular social groups?' I chose to answer this using 'Prezi' as it is really interactive and makes it more interesting!

Evaluation Question 1

We were asked for our first Evaluation question 'In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and convections of real media products?' I decided to answer this through using 'Mindmeister' because I had a lot of points and it was the best way to keep them all neat but understandable! Your browser is not able to display frames. Issues that we faced

As a group we did work really well together and we decided between us what we were going to do and who was going to do certain jobs. We decided that Tahlia would be the main actress because of her drama studies, Eleanor would be the other actress because she wanted to have ago at being on the opposite side of the camera to last time when we did our preliminary task, Grace took editing because our filming location was far away from where she lived and she is also the most talented in our group at editing as she seems to understand it more and me, I took the role of filming which I did share with Eleanor because I had issues with attendance and illness. We did start filming later than we had planned but this was just because we struggled to find a time when we were all free. The first day of filming it was just me and Tahlia and we decided to try and face storm Doris and it was a challenge but we did get a lot of it done even if it was freezing cold! The wind and rain was in our face s...

Location shots for our thriller

Image
Hi Everyone! Here are some location shots from our 'Don't Walk Alone' thriller opening and just some captions letting you know why we chose them. This is one of the first locations we see where the young girl is having the argument with her friend inside the house. This is the street Tahlia walks up to get away from the chaos, we clearly see the street deserted in the film showing she's all alone so that later on it causes confusion. We then move to this shot, where things begin to be noticeable that something isn't quite right as Tahlia turns after felling uneasy as she is on her own. This is the park where we see her walk up and sit on a swing, we made a point of having the swings moving when she already got there to add to the eerie sense we were trying to create. We decided on a playground to show something normally seen as innocent and happy to be then seen as sinister which would add to the non-diegetic sound that compliments th...

Thriller Opening (first draft)

Image
After filming seemed to take forever we finally got all out shots together and were playing around with sound and editing trying to make it perfect! we got asked to put forward a first draft so that they could be looked at to asses the good and bad points, so here it is...

Legal Documents

Image
Hi Everyone! Before we began filming we had to sort out a legal document to show the risks we were taking, this was to ensure the health and safety of everyone both filming and taking part in our film 'Don't Walk Alone'. The reason for doing a risk assessment was to acknowledge the fact we knew what could go wrong and by doing a risk assessment. We had to do a risk assessment because even though our film wasn't violent or anything like that it still meant we needed to cross roads and walk along slippery surfaces. We further included information on the company name and the organisation which for us would have been 'BGTE' productions and the organisation would have been 'Tupton Hall School'.

Marketing in media

Image
Today in lesson we learnt some facts about Marketing in the media and to display the information clearly I decided to use a pie chart. The pie chart shows that in the British Film Industry 10%  were UK independent films, 34% were made in the UK but backed by American companies and 51% were films made in the USA.        By looking at these statistics it clearly shows how the American film industry is still dominant even over the British Film market. We clearly see that British films which are backed by American companies (such as Warner Bro's) are much more successful than UK independent films (such as Film 4 productions). Cross Media Convergence is...      2014 saw a record year for British Films... UK Box Office receipts of over £1,000,000,000,000. Over £1,000,000,000,000 spent on productions shot in the UK. Amount of films being made in the UK is up to35%. UK productions had a market share of 16% : co- productio...

What makes a British Film?

Hello everyone! in lesson today we've been looking at what makes a film British? well, we were asked to do some research and see what process a film had to go through to be classified as a British film. Every film goes through the 'cultural test'. This is when films score points from how many targets they reach, if they reach over 16 points then the film is claimed as British.

First Thoughts- Section B Introduction

Hi Everyone! Today we got introduced to Section B of the exam and we went over a few key things to remember(By learning about different film production companies it helped us to decide which film company we would sell our film to) Some of the Key Information:  The exam lasts approximately 2 hours It is worth 50% of your overall mark/grade.  You have to answer two questions in total, one from section A and another from section B. Both are worth 50 marks which equals to 25% of your overall grade. You should spend 45 minutes on each question. at least 30 minutes of the exam will be taken up by watching the clip for section A. for section B you will just be given a question to answer. In part B of the exam you can refer to theorists but it is not compulsory. So you could talk about the Marxist view and the feminist view but you are not required to by the examiner.

Warner Bros Productions

Image
Warner Bro's Productions has made its name for being arguably one of the biggest production company's in the world ,it has produced some of the most famous films such as the Harry Potter series and the Scooby Doo films, it has also made millions through doing this increasing its popularity and it financial expenditure. The first Warner Bros Studio was opened in 1918 on the Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood and the business has grown ever since. Warner Bros did however declare their founding date as 1905. The company is in high demand and now has its own website advertising the many different films it is producing and sponsoring. Interestingly as well as films it also produces TV Series and video games. The productions will be worth millions now and they never fail to produce a good film, all of them are enjoyable and appeal to all audiences and that may be the secret behind the success of Warner Bros but ill leave that debate for another day!

Regional Identity

Hello Everyone! In lesson today we focused on Regional Identity and what it was all about! Some thoughts on Regional Identity are that... It involves stereotyping in places of 'real' experience. Although, people (on the receiving end) are generally more compatible with regional stereotypes than racial stereotypes- however they can still cause offence.   Some regions/areas arguably are more affected by negative stereotypes. Our own Identity tends to be more noticeable when a person is out of their comfort zone, For example going to live abroad in a completely different country, people are more likely to point out differences about you.   Exam Tip! When writing in a exam it is probably better to use words like 'regional dialect' or 'received pronunciation' instead of things like 'posh'. We watched a clip from the TV program 'Doc Martin' and were asked to make notes on the regional Identity used. The mise-en-scene shows the region t...

Different Audience Effects Theories.

Hello!  We were given a task to show the different audience effects media can have, i chose to do this through the form of Prezi because it was a lot of information to type straight on a single blog and I thought it would be more interesting this way!     So by looking at all the information I thought that the 'hypodermic syringe theory' could relate to our thriller because it could permanently inject the idea that a playground is a dangerous place and that it isn't as safe as everyone would think. This may affect people more if they are parents of younger children as obviously they are more vulnerable but it could also affect teens as they would feel uneasy about being on their own .

Audience Task 1

Image
Hello Everybody! We have been given a task and we had to complete two relating to the audience we are aiming for with our thriller opening. The first task I chose was 'How our thriller will apply to audience categorisation theories (use Bulmer  & Katz 'Uses and Gratification and various others) '. Our Thriller film begins with a family arguing, this would relate to the Bulmer & Katz theory because it means the viewer can have a personal relationship with the opening, this means that maybe young people more teens other than anyone else would be able to relate to it as that may happen in their life. Furthermore, It could be seen as a technique of 'Diversion'. For example if someone was struggling in their own life they may turn to the media to help themselves cope and see that other people are also struggling so it isn't just them. Some people may also use our type of thriller for the Entertainment purpose! Thrillers are a popular genre of film and ...

Bulmer and Katz theory

Image
The Bulmer and Katz theory (1974) was one that focused on "what people do with the media" instead of "what the media does with people". It mainly looks at the person consuming the media. It is mainly referred to as the 'Uses and Gratification Theory' which further means that the consumer chooses how they use media to satisfy them. However, the theory further suggests that the consumer may have a motif for choosing certain types of media other than their own needs.  Media users may chose different types of media to benefit for different reasons: they may use it to help with personal relationships as they may be able to  connect with a particular character and may find some comfort in that sense. They also may watch things for lifestyle purposes e.g. the weather, news, holiday bargains and many more. However there is a upsetting side as some people may watch things as a diversion, so to get away from every day problems they may be facing in...

Thriller Opening - storyboard

Image
To help us have a starting point, we were asked to produce a storyboard. By doing this it meant we could not only have a clear picture of what we were doing but everyone's ideas could be incorporated! We decided to have a girl arguing with her parent or someone shes close with and then she walks out slamming the door and ends up in the abandoned park down the road, she begins to hear things, strange things so she walks, further ending up in a graveyard where spooky things begin to happen... To add to the effect we decided to film this just as night was falling, we believe this will add to the tension and help with the audience affect we are aiming for. We've decided to rate this a 18 film, however this could change at the end of production when we see it finally overall. Below are the photos of the story board which is still a rough plan but at least we've got a starting point so we can begin to film and edit throughout!

Lighting

Image
Hi Everyone! Today I'm going to talk about the effects of lighting on the audience and how the lighting could add more tension to the thriller or film/programme that it is in.     Insidious chapter 3 has a really good representation of the lighting that i talk about in the Prezi soheres the link for it!

Regulations BBFC

Image
Hi Everyone! welcome back, we were asked to research the BBFC age restrictions and regulations and tell what the mean, enjoy!     The BBFC have different regulations that are often on the front of Films and TV to show which audience the programme is suitable for. Every 4-5 years the BBFC carry out a survey to the public to see how they feel about the regulations and depending on the feedback they adjust them if need.   U- Meaning universal, this states that anyone can watch the film because it wont harm any age group, these are often found on Disney films. PG - This means that Parental Guidance is advised because some of the film may harm certain groups of people. 12/12A - This means that no one under the age of 12 should not watch the film because it is not suitable for them. 12A means no one under the age of 12 should watch the film without a adult. 15 - This is showing the viewer that no one under the age of 15 should be watching the film ...

Disability represented in the media

Hi Everyone! so I got asked to talk about how disability is represented in the media and I've done a word document to show the coverage and how it is argued as being fair and unfair, the example I used was of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games... so enjoy!  Disability Represented in the Media
