Regulations BBFC
Hi Everyone! welcome back, we were asked to research the BBFC age restrictions and regulations and tell what the mean, enjoy!
The BBFC have different regulations that are often on the front of Films and TV to show which audience the programme is suitable for. Every 4-5 years the BBFC carry out a survey to the public to see how they feel about the regulations and depending on the feedback they adjust them if need.
U- Meaning universal, this states that anyone can watch the film because it wont harm any age group, these are often found on Disney films.
PG - This means that Parental Guidance is advised because some of the film may harm certain groups of people.
12/12A - This means that no one under the age of 12 should not watch the film because it is not suitable for them.12A means no one under the age of 12 should watch the film without a adult.
15- This is showing the viewer that no one under the age of 15 should be watching the film as it could upset them.
18- Showing that the minimum age to view the film is 18, this may be because it involves violent content.
Sometimes these do get ignored and adults will buy a film which their child is too young to watch. This could be the reason they carry out a survey of the public view to see if they're being to harsh or to lenient with the age limits. We are living in a generation where children and young people are more able to cope with the effects of horror films and maybe is why many horror and thriller films sit at a age limit of 15. The only ones that are at 18 are either involving violence or graphic images.
