Audience Task 1
Hello Everybody!
We have been given a task and we had to complete two relating to the audience we are aiming for with our thriller opening. The first task I chose was 'How our thriller will apply to audience categorisation theories (use Bulmer & Katz 'Uses and Gratification and various others) '.
Our Thriller film begins with a family arguing, this would relate to the Bulmer & Katz theory because it means the viewer can have a personal relationship with the opening, this means that maybe young people more teens other than anyone else would be able to relate to it as that may happen in their life.
Furthermore, It could be seen as a technique of 'Diversion'. For example if someone was struggling in their own life they may turn to the media to help themselves cope and see that other people are also struggling so it isn't just them.
Some people may also use our type of thriller for the Entertainment purpose! Thrillers are a popular genre of film and one which takes many peoples interest, so some people may just go use our thriller opening purely for Entertainment.
This opening sequence to 'Shutter Island' I think this is a good opening to use because it shows the film off before it has started, and it sets the viewer up for the film . For example, in this film there is a lot of confusion for the audience so it begins with a confusing title sequence! I chose this to show also how the audience may be able to relate because they may use it for entertainment, personal relationship or diversion.
This video does contain some tabs what the person who published it has added just to explain the camera shots and angles, but the main focus for me was how it would affect
the consumer.
