Don’t Walk Alone- Beth, Grace, Eleanor, Tahlia
Working Title – Don’t Walk Alone
Movie Length – 1hr 47 minutes
Genre – Horror-thriller
Synopsis – A girl goes out to clear her head during the early evening hours and finds herself in an open field, where she hears dramatic screams/cries for help. Intertwined with mystery; entangled with darkness and touched by the emotions of people who have passed away.
Potential Tag Lines – “Who will prevail, her or them?”, “Ghosts are just made up stories.”, “and can you see that?”
Brief Elucidation – The idea of it is to unpredictably frighten and cause discomfort for the audience by showing that once you have witnessed the supernatural you will never be able to get away or forget what you saw. This is because the supernatural world has forced the voices in her head to make both the audience and characters believe that the supernatural is real. Furthermore, the audience are made to feel things they wouldn’t usually feel due to intense and uncontrollable, visions and sounds the character undergoes.
Discussion on Audience – Initially, the intended audience would have to be of a suitable age (18+) for this horror-thriller because of the explicit scenes and potential language included. However, it would be a mass audience as usually 18+ tend to be categorized of most likely to watch horror films compared to older/younger audiences. This is because they have more of a ‘buzz’ or ‘thrill’ to watch things that cause high levels of adrenaline and suspicion; examples of films which provide this feeling are ‘Cabin in the Woods’, ‘The Exorcist’, ‘Insidious’. These include the typical pale ghosts which audiences are expecting but just don’t know when which give the films their jump scare image. Large amounts of jump scares and fright factors will be littered in the film, and for this reason it isn’t really appropriate for anyone under the age of 18 to witness the film. The films condensed scary plot can give the audience an overview of what’s to come which edges them on to want to see the upcoming film as they incur an individual perception when walking into the film and can expect heart racing moments. The generic concept works effectively on anyone regardless of their age, gender, religion or ethnicity; because this will stimulate possibly the same spontaneous understanding of the film for each individual as it isn’t pointedly directed at any audience. The actual purpose of the film is to fluctuate the feelings of the audience, in order that they have a full capacity of experience of what the film is like.
Film/Trailer Appearance – Artificial lighting to represent the extremity to which the supernatural event occurs as we are able to focus on specific areas, which will allows us to make parts sufficiently effective. Also different coloured filters can be used with artificial lighting such as, green, black, blue; these are all quite dark, mysterious colours which will give our film more of a horror vibe – this will also give the sense of supernatural presence a thorough representation instead of a typical ‘pale ghost’. We are aiming to include occasionally close ups of the character to get an insight to how they are feeling and specifically to see the weakness of the facial expressions in the face of trepidation, a slow zoom shot edging towards isolation or something which triggers an action code that will essentially build up high sums of tension for both the audience and character. In terms of sounds lots can be done, for example when titling the film with opening and ending credits, we can have the names read out with a cold breath extension after each name; to create the ghostly thrill felt by the audience in specific horror-thriller films.
Premises – “What if everything you were told about the supernatural, it being false, wasn’t true?”, “Is it normal to believe in the supernatural?”, “Ghosts are real”
