Se7en Textual analysis

Hello Everyone!

In class we watched a clip from the film 'Se7en' and then we were asked to look at some stills from what we watched and elaborate on what they show and why certain things were done.

Here's just a little bit of information about the film:
Genre: Drama/Thriller
Director: David Fincher ( Also done films such as 'Fight Club' and 'Gone Girl')
Screenplay: Andrew Kevin Walker ( Was also involved with 'Panic Room')
The film contains some famous faces as well such as Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow .

In this screen grab we can clearly tell the man is involved in the police service due to the badge, we also know he posses harmful weapons. The fact his hand is on the badge makes the audience look at that out of all the objects and it shows he's proud of what he's achieved.

In this we see the retired detective (Morgan Freeman, right) speaking with the new recruited detective (Brad Pitt ,Left) the fact that the retired detective is well dressed and looks formal suggests he's been in the business along time and takes his job seriously, where as the new detective is dressed more informally, this could suggest how over time different generations have adapted and become more relaxed.

The lighting in this shot makes the audience feel uneasy towards this character because half of his face is dark it suggests there's a sinister side to him and something dodgy.

In this we see the new detective laughing in what we can suggest is the response to the retired detective. This could be showing a lack of respect by the younger generation because as one is laughing the other isn't looking amused. It could further infer that younger generations are not very respectful to people giving them advice.
